Now for a brief look at what comes after 4G!!

LTE-Advanced tested at 600Mbps in Korea

The South Korean government's Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has demoed one of the first public instances of LTE-Advanced. A test mobile media broadcast system peaked at 600Mbps, or six times faster than regular LTE, and was capable of speeds that could easily outperform most landlines. The agency downloaded a CD-sized 700MB movie in 9.3 seconds and could stream 3D TV even while roaming in a test vehicle.

The technology is still in its early stages and wouldn't be ready in Korea until 2014, or four years after the first standard LTE networks went live in the US. A single-chip LTE-Advanced design should be ready in the next three years. AT&T, Verizon and most major North American and European carriers will likely have completed their LTE networks by then but might have a quicker path to upgrades than the leap from 3G.
