Survey shows bad news for RIM, Android
The majority of Verizon's current Blackberry and Android users are considering a switch to the iPhone, according to a survey conducted by uSamp. A quarter of respondents suggested they are very likely to make the move, while 29 percent are somewhat likely to buy a Verizon iPhone. Of the Verizon customers planning to get an iPhone, 24 percent indicated willingness to stand in line during the launch day.
The survey points to potentially bad news for RIM and Google, though BlackBerry users appear to be more likely to switch platforms. Two-thirds of Verizon's BlackBerry users responded as very likely or somewhat likely to switch to the iPhone, while only 44 percent of Android users said the same. Respondents cite the interface, web browser, media, memory and the camera as features contributing to their decision to switch platforms.
The uSamp survey shows similar results among AT&T customers, with more than a quarter of the carrier's iPhone owners planning on switching to Verizon on the first day of availability. Only 47 percent report being "very unlikely" to switch carriers, while 12 percent are "somewhat unlikely." Of the AT&T iPhone owners, nearly half cite dropped calls as the primary reason for switching to Verizon.
Actual numbers regarding migration from AT&T or Verizon's BlackBerry and Android devices remain unclear, though Verizon has already run out of iPhone pre-orders for existing subscribers.
